Scenario: 07-2007
You are running late for
a formal appointment. You hurry home and park your car in the driveway. You
take a shower in the master bathroom as you come out of the shower you hear the
front door bell. Putting on a robe, you go to the front door and see a man
walking toward the street that passes your house. He is walking away from your
front door and toward a van where two other men are loitering. The men by the
van cross the street. One walks across your yard and disappears around the
corner by the master bedroom. The other two walk across the yard toward where
you parked your car. You see one at the side door of your house. He uses a foot
long screwdriver to instantly force the door open. He quickly enters the door.
His partner passes the rear window headed for the rear door. You can see he has
a S&W auto pistol in his hand, you hear the rear
door being forced. The guy with the screwdriver sees you, but is undeterred. He
calls to his associate that you are at home. You have verbally warned them that
you are armed and that they should leave. They do not hesitate or obey your
warning. Eight seconds have passed since you first saw the man walking away
from your front door.

armament in your home, and where it would be under the circumstances stated.

Environmental awareness
has directed your attention to the intruders; situational analysis tells you
that these intruders intend to enter your house while it is occupied. Your car
is conspicuous in the driveway. They are using multiple points of entry. They
are undeterred by your verbal warnings. They are not burglars. They are house
robbers who seek violent confrontation with their victims. They specifically
intend to harm you in your home. Take the nearest phone off the hook and dial
911. Do not waste time talking. Let them listen and trace the call. Be decisive
and explosive in the execution of your plan. If it is to escape - go! If it is
confrontation, do not let them join forces!
