Tactical Scenario:  12-2006

Trespasser Scenario

By:  Mark Henry

It is a warm Saturday afternoon and you decide to get some woodworking projects done in your basement workshop. The spouse and kids are off at the local amusement park for the day with a church group.  As is your usual routine, the doors and windows are closed and locked.  About an hour into the project, you turn the dust collector and table saw off for a coffee break. As you remove your hearing protection, you hear the sound of people walking on the floor above you.  This is unusual because your spouse is not expected back for hours.

It sounds like two adults walking around on the kitchen floor above.  A male voice in a hushed tone says, “Be quiet they might hear us up here.  Let’s get out of here before they come up the stairs.”

You get a sick feeling in your stomach because you left your SIG 9mm upstairs along with your pepper spray.  There is no phone in the basement because you forgot to bring the portable phone downstairs with you.  You have with you in the basement an Airsoft G19 with lots of Green Gas and plastic ammo for the Airsoft.  Also available, are all of your tools and wood.

The basement has two exits as required by code.   They are the stairs leading up to the kitchen and a high basement window.

Analyze the situation and take appropriate action. Describe your thought process and why you took the actions that you did.
