Tactical
Scenario: 01-2006
Today went just like every other day this week,
busy. You got up early for a 12-hour
day then went to bed late because of home activities. It is 10 o’clock and time to get to bed before tomorrow
starts. An early morning trip is
planned with your boys aged 12 and 14 to go to the family cabin in the
mountains, a 2 hour trip. This is going
to be a workday with just the guys to get things ready for the family when
spring arrives. Just as you are ready to go to sleep you realize that you
forgot to pick up some much-needed hardware items at the Big Discount Mart,
which closes at 11 o‘clock. The store
does not open until 10 AM tomorrow. Picking up the hardware tomorrow will cut
into the workday. You drag yourself out of bed get dressed and to go Big Discount
Mart pick up the items, just a little mad at yourself because you had
forgotten.
While in Big Discount Mart, you decide to head to
the electronics section to find a music CD to listen to with the boys on the
way to the cabin. Two aisles away, you hear a male scream. It is not a cream of
happy surprise but rather one of panic and pain. Emerging from the aisle is a
clerk running and looking very scared.
He has blood running down his right arm due to a very large wound. Very shortly after him in hot pursuit is a
man with a long knife screaming, “I’ll kill you, I‘ll kill you.” The two are heading in your general
direction at a very fast pace.
In your right front pants pocket is a J Frame
revolver fully loaded with Cor-Bon ammunition. You curse yourself because in
your hast to get out of the house and get the hardware items for tomorrow you
didn’t bring your cell phone, pepper spray, knife, light or spare ammunition.
Explain what action you would take and why.
The Big
Discount Mart Response
First, off get off the line of the
attack and get some cover between you and the clerk and the
attacker. If the attack continues draw
down and order the attacker to get down and drop the knife while still creating
distance and keeping cover between the two of you. Yell out for some one to call 911.
