Tactical Scenario:  09-2005

The Wal-Mart Scenario

By:  Mark Henry

You and your wife have just left the local Wal-Mart on a hot summer day at approximately 2:00 PM.  It’s 90 degrees with 90% humidity.  After walking to your car, you hear noise and yelling coming form the entrance to the Wal-Mart.  You see a security guard in hot pursuit of two young Hispanic males who are running toward your vicinity of the parking lot.   You and your wife have reached the car, which is still locked.  You are on the driver’s side and your wife is on the passenger side of the vehicle.  About 12 feet directly behind your vehicle, in the access lane, the trailing male stops, turns and pulls out a knife.  The security guard seeing the knife too late is subsequently stabbed once in the upper chest.  The young male pauses as the security guard backs away.  He looks directly at you for a moment.  The other male is two cars away looking at his companion.

You are legally permitted to carry a concealed weapon in this jurisdiction. Since it was so hot today, you only have a Kel-Tec P-32 caliber in a Sherrick pocket holster with no backup ammunition. Your significant other has a cell phone.

State what action you would take and why.

Response to the Wal-Mart Scenario

Get in the car, lock the doors & dial 911.  Get a vehicle and bad guy description, plate number if possible, and drive off to a secure location and await the police and give the description to them.  It isn’t your fight at that point!!
