Cliff Miller
06/30/2003
Cliff Miller, who died from natural causes on June 30, 2003, was
an integral and substantial part of the NTI Team. His early,
untimely death was a shock and great loss to all that knew him.
He was involved in many facets of the shooting sports and a core
member of the Adams County Sportsmen’s Association. Cliff was a
participant in the early NTI events, and from NTI V- XIII was an
active and contributing Team member.
The strong and friendly personality along with the ready smile
and quick wit soon endeared him to the entire Team and any
participants who came to know him. He began his career with the
Team on live fire stages. There his ability and insight into the
mechanics of building stages and understanding of the philosophy
of the event soon manifested itself in scenarios that were
challenging and meaningful. He was more than a willing worker
and was always there to assist anyone in any way that he could.
The keen sense of humor that became one of his trademarks was
appreciated by all that came into contact with him. Any
conversation with Cliff was an uplifting experience. He had that
unique ability to make anyone feel good about themselves no
matter how exasperating any situation might be.
When he transferred to the “Force on Force” stages, and became
one of the original ATSA Village judges, his talents and
abilities found a whole new venue to express creativity and
learning. One of his favorite themes “watch your six” was always
presented as a significant problem for practitioners to learn a
valuable lesson. Cliff had a unique ability to propose real life
situations that provided individuals with the opportunity to
test themselves and their reactions in order to evaluate their
abilities. His calm and commanding presence in “The Village”
assured participants and role players that a safe arena was
established in order to produce the atmosphere to learn and test
skills and abilities.
While the physical presence of the man is no longer with the
Team, the sense of honor and duty that he exhibited along with
the lessons and humor that he portrayed shall always remain a
part of the NTI.
